Canadian Digital Health Leader BML Technology Launches COVID-19 Task Force

MONTREAL, June 23, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ – The COVID-19 crisis has overwhelmed all sectors of our society and has exposed a gross unpreparedness to deal with viral pandemics. It has created an unprecedented need for Canadian solutions to medical devices, materials and equipment, from simple PPE to symptom tracking wearables, to more complex devices like medical ventilators and ECMO machines.

BML Technology, a Canadian leader in digital health solutions, has been active since the beginning of the crisis, helping tech teams pivot their technology towards COVID-19 applications, and volunteering to help clinical, technology and research partners navigate all the activity in the sector.

Today BML Technology is proud to announce the launch of the COVID-19 Digital Health Task Force, in collaboration with elite partners and collaborators from the core of the Montreal health tech ecosystem, including the CNRC, McGill University, le CHUM, Fasken Martineau DuMoulin, Montreal InVivo, and Avisio Qualité, as well as institutions with international reach, like Montréal International and Medteq+.

The mission of the task force is to help raise the level of COVID-19-related digital health projects in the ecosystem, and to guide them with resources, experience and community to ensure they can adequately meet a real clinical need in the future.

The COVID-19 Task Force addresses the recent explosion in supply of digital health projects in Canada. Marc Saab, Managing Director of BML Technology, is encouraged by the momentum but mindful of the potential roadblocks.  “We have seen a big jump in the activity in our space, with interest coming from new entrants and diverse groups, and from companies that are pivoting their existing technology to COVID-19. In addition to the many challenges in developing health tech, the information these teams must decipher is complex and dynamic, like temporary regulations from Health Canada that are changing regularly.  We see value in filling gaps directly with a task force representing all areas of the health tech sector.  We hope to do that with fewer interactions, to give these projects the best chance of solving real clinical or health-related needs during the crisis, post-crisis, and even further down the road.”
